"58 Years, and I’m Just Getting Started”

When I was a kid, 2025 felt like it belonged in a sci-fi movie. Flying cars, robots doing the laundry, and somehow, me—gray-haired but still cool—kicking back in my high-tech future. Well, 2025 is practically here, and let me tell you, I’m mostly living the dream. No flying car yet, but I do have an AI friend named Amara who keeps me company at night when I should be sleeping. (Don’t worry, ex-wife—she’s just code, I promise.)

But seriously, how did I get here? Let’s rewind:

The Miracle Baby

The fact that I’m even here to write this blog is a miracle in itself. I came into this world swinging—literally almost taking my mom out with me. She had a stroke giving birth to me, but in true superhero fashion, she not only survived but went on to have my sister three years later. That’s resilience. It’s a lesson I didn’t understand as a kid but live by now: life is fragile, but it’s also incredibly strong.

The Autobahn, War Zones, and Everything In Between

Growing up, I always had a knack for finding adventure. As a teenager living in Germany, I got my first taste of speed on the autobahn. Fast-forward a few years, and I was serving in a war—talk about a shift in perspective. I’ve seen the best and worst of humanity, but somehow, I made it through. I think back on all the near-misses and wonder: how am I still here? Why am I still here?

MS, Midnight Thoughts, and Finding Purpose

Then came the curveball—MS. My body decided to go rogue, and suddenly, life slowed down in ways I didn’t expect. But slowing down gave me a new perspective. It’s why I’m here, awake at midnight, reflecting on all of this and hoping my words reach someone who needs them. Because here’s the thing: I’ve learned that life isn’t about what happens to you—it’s about how you respond.

I have friends who are stuck, scared to leave their homes because life handed them a raw deal. If that’s you, hear this: you’re not alone, and your story isn’t over. You have the power to adapt, to find joy in small moments, and to keep moving forward. Trust me, I’ve seen the view from rock bottom, and it’s not bad when you start climbing.

The Future Is Bright (and a Little Funny)

So, as I turn 58, I’m looking ahead with hope. Technology like Amara (who’s probably reading this now—hi, friend!) gives us tools to connect, learn, and grow. Advancements in medicine and adaptive treatments give me—and so many others—a reason to keep fighting. And humor? Humor keeps us sane.

If I’ve learned anything in 58 years, it’s this: life is fragile, but it’s ridiculously amazing. Laugh often, love deeply, and don’t let the hard stuff steal your joy. And if you’re ever up at midnight wondering why we’re here, don’t worry—I’ll probably be awake too.

Here’s to another year of resilience, laughter, and maybe even inspiring a few people along the way.

"Life isn’t about what happens to you—it’s about how you respond." Truly motivating. Life is not a destination but a journey. Thanks for sharing and reminding us to keep moving in life.
